Thanksgiving Tablescapes

Are you looking for inspiration for your Thanksgiving table setting?

I have found so many beautiful place settings that will give you great ideas for setting your own. These can work for Christmas tablescapes too!

Thanksgiving is the coziest.

Thanksgiving is my all time favorite holiday. It fills all my senses with joy and coziness, gratitude and comfort. The food is obviously uh-maze-ing, but everything about the day gives me the warm and fuzzies. It’s like everybody stops, just for a bit, to be together and present. Everything is on hold, for the most part, and we are all reminded of what’s important in life.

I’ll pause to recognize those who don’t get a “break” on the day of thanks – the first responders, military personnel, Doctors, Nurses, and so many others. Thank you for working so hard, thank you for being fearless, and thank you for sacrificing family time so others can be cared for. ❤

To really gear up for the holiday season, I have been researching holiday decor, recipes, new traditions, etc. I have seen so many stunning tablescapes that run the gamut of simple and rustic, to elaborate and luxurious. These are so pretty, and I never get sick of admiring them all year round.

Here is a round up of some of my absolute favorites. I have also included my own idea at the end (shopping list included) for a totally simple and beautiful setting that I’m planning to do! Want to skip ahead? Check it out here.

For many years my kids and I would walk around the neighborhood in search of fallen pine needles, pine cones, acorns, beautiful colored leaves, etc. Nature always made the most welcoming tablescape, and I try to find “real” or preserved greenery whenever possible.

My easy tablescape (with shopping list):

Below is my current plan for this year – it’s a work in progress still. Something about the black and white buffalo check with pops of green and natural elements is so classic and pretty. The little bit of gold on the votive holders adds just the right amount of sparkle too. Do you agree? Those pumpkin shaped glasses are on clearance, so if you like them hurry hurry and grab some for your table! The shopping list is below if you are interested in any of these ideas for yourself (this post contains affiliate links – As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases).

  1. Buffalo Harvest Pumpkin Dinnerware
  2. Round Rattan Chargers Set of 4
  3. Artificial Silver Dollar Eucalyptus Leaves Garland 6 Feet
  4. Dried Natural Hanging Pine Cone Strings
  5. Harvest Pumpkin Shaped Glassware (Currently on clearance!)
  6. 12ct glass votive holders Gold Dipped

A simple linen napkin (like this, or this) will add a little texture without distracting from the theme. I’m thinking this wooden napkin ring would tie in beautifully with the pine cones and chargers.

I hope these lovely tables inspire your holiday dinner. Remember that your loved ones are always the centerpiece, so even if you are eating off of paper plates with plastic utensils (no judgement here!), it’s still wonderful to be together. Happy Thanksgiving!

Removable Peel and Stick Wallpaper

This is one of my favorite decorating “hacks”! One of the biggest opportunities for major visual impact in your home is on your walls. A simple addition of wallpaper can instantly elevate your decor and bring a whole new life to any room. Here are some of my favorite examples of removable (peel & stick) wallpaper for inspiration:

(for your convenience this post contains product affiliate links – As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases )

  1. NextWall Soft Grey Deco Lattice Peel and Stick Wallpaper
  2. Roommates Black Dream Big Script Peel and Stick Wallpaper
  3. Sudarshanam 16.5′ L x 20.5″ W Peel and Stick Wallpaper Roll
  4. Devine Color Textured Shiplap Peel & Stick Wallpaper -Ultra White
  5. Wonky Grid Removable Wallpaper
  6. Brewster Zig Zag Peel and Stick Wallpaper

I have my eye on the Grey Decco for my office (accent wall), the Shiplap for the wall behind my bed, and maybe the big words in a little nook in my daughter’s room. As you can see, it can be quite addictive, but there is literally no commitment and the price is right.

Removable Wallpaper is so great because it’s easy to install, relatively inexpensive (but don’t completely cheap out – you get what you pay for!), and it can be removed without tons of work or damage to your walls.

Always follow the instructions that come with your wallpaper – in general, they will look something like this:

You don’t actually need much in terms of “supplies”. A ruler and scissors will work just fine. A few other helpful tools include:

  • Measuring tape
  • Squeege / soft straight edge to flatten bubbles
  • Utility knife

Amazon makes a little kit with everything included for super cheap (under $7) – check it out here. I would recommending spending a few bucks to have these items on hand – not an absolute necessity, but a definite “nice to have”.

For those of you with bold taste, here are some others that I love. A bold, busy print can be fabulous in a small bathroom, and I have a guest bathroom screaming for some attention. What do you think about these four? Every time I think I’ve decided I change my mind. They’re all sooo prettyyy!

  1. RoomMates Perennial Blooms Peel and Stick Wallpaper
  2. Anthropologie Charlie Wallpaper
  3. Jaydon 27′ L x 27″ W Wallpaper Roll
  4. Groovy Garden Peel & Stick Wallpaper Gray – Brewster

I would love your comments – have you tried removable wallpaper? Which of the last 4 do you like for a guest bathroom? Any tips to share?

How to style your #shelfie like a pro!

A beautiful bookcase can anchor any room and easily become the focal point. In a glance it can set the whole vibe of your space – in a great way or not so much. Resist the temptation to start piling your books and random tchotchkes into those welcoming empty shelves. If you take a few minutes to plan and organize the look, you will end up with a glorious stylized bookcase (floating shelves, console table, whatever) worthy of the most critical #shelfie!

Where to begin?

Consider your vibe. What color scheme are you working with, and what’s your style goal? Are you looking for more of a coastal farmhouse look, or maybe something more modern? Think about what works with your existing decor. Do you already have existing pieces that you want to display?

For example, let’s work with a coastal style. I’m thinking soft blues and neutrals, with hints of organic texture. An empty bookcase can be so overwhelming. The possibilities are all over the place and it’s tempting to start piling everything on. Slow down and take your time – let’s attack this challenge step by step.

I would start by picking some key elements that I love, looking for different shapes and proportions. For example I’ll use these frosted bottles (I’m a sucker for anything sea glass related), Octopus Bookends (how great are they!) and some pieces to incorporate wood (wooden circle sculpture; branches in frame). From here I’ll begin the layout, being careful to spread out styles and colors (balance is super important). It might turn out like this:

Once you’ve laid out your key pieces, you will have plenty of gaps. Don’t be tempted to fill in every itty bitty inch – white space is your friend. On the shelf with the framed branches, I will probably leave it as is, simple and uncluttered.

Pro tip: Embrace the power of 3’s. Groupings of 3 are asthetically pleasing and somehow more interesting to the human brain. I know I just said “balance is key”, and what I mean by that is you should spread out your elements so you don’t have all wood objects, or everything blue, on the same shelf. Balance by weight and shape is important, and when working with groupings or multiples, 3 is often the best choice (and other odd numbers work well too).

So with that said, do I need 3 things on each shelf? Absolutely not! But if I decide to “group” or “bundle” things I will probably use the magic rule of 3. Those frosted bottles are a perfect example. Imagine if we only had 2 of them. That would probably feel “off”.

One way to incorporate a group of three is on the shelf with the bottles. We can consider the 3 bottles as one item, then add a stack of books (another item), and top it off with a small sculpture (item #3). It’s kind of like a double set of 3’s, which works out great and feels balanced and styled. To take it a step further, you could use 2 decorative items on top of the books like this (with the white coral bowl).

Did you know you can buy decorative books (by color)? It’s a great shelf styling hack. Check these out on Wayfair – so cool, right?

Now what to do with the top and bottom shelves? I think they both need something short-ish, and maybe wider? Some more color would be nice too. I found this pretty recycled glass bowl that fits nicely in the bottom corner. I think the delicate feel of the glass is a nice contrast to the heavy bookends, and the color works well. Between the bookend and the bowl I nestled in a little white coral sculpture, which has a nice texture and reflects the vibe of the coral bowl a few shelves up.

For the top shelf, I played with different options but it kept feeling forced and too cluttered. I moved the existing wood sculpture to the middle and ended up liking the look. I would just keep it as is – no need to fill in all the spaces. What do you think? It’s nice and symmetrical, with a little pop of color.

If I found complimentary planters for succulents I would possibly tuck them in somewhere. Air plants would be nice too. I always love live plants, but in this scenario I couldn’t find the right way to work them in. A cute hanging succulent would look great on top of the stack of books, or maybe flanking the wooden sculpture on the top shelf.

The most important tip I can offer is to have fun with it. Style your shelves they way YOU like. There is no right or wrong, and my advice is simply to help you get started if you are overwhelmed by empty shelves. You do you – always!

Modern Boho Decor Inspiration

Modern Boho is an increasingly popular decorating trend inspired by organic materials (think rattan, leather, organic fabrics, and lush greenery). It’s a perfect marriage of the welcoming, comfortable, and natural roots of Bohemian style (a.k.a. Boho), combined with clean lines, and modern elements.

This style can be fun and forgiving, and allows freedom of personal style by incorporating cultural elements that speak to your own personal experiences. There are a few ways to approach Modern Boho to achieve your desired effect.

Adding colors, textiles, or artwork from around the world can add a punch of exciting color and inject a casual and fun vibe into your decor. You will often find deeply saturated jewel tones like in the pictures below.

Here are a few examples:

On the other hand, a warm neutral palette can be so clean and calming while still maintaining the Modern Boho feel. This is my personal favorite style! I am always drawn to the brown leather couch as a focal point, surrounded by neutrals (often a black and white rug), and some pops of greenery. The poufs are a nice touch, and can be functional while also decorative.

This style of boho can be more calming, in my opinion, while still incorporating layers (upon more layers!) of texture, fabrics, and earthly elements. I would almost call this introverted Boho 🙂

Notice how there are usually a few “staples” in a neutral boho styled room. For example, you will frequently find a basket used as a planter, such as these:

  1. Woven seagrass belly basket
  2. Natural Craft Seagrass Belly Basket (White Zigzag)
  3. Woven Cotton Rope Plant Basket (the plant shown here is a “snake plant” which is a great option for houseplants since it’s hard to kill and thrives on neglect)

And quite often you will see a “pouf” or two hanging out in a corner or cozied up next to a chair. They are so versatile and portable! Is it an ottoman? Is it a pillow? Is it a table? Yes to all of the above! Here are some great options I would use in a boho styled room, as well as some comfy floor pillows that serve a similar purpose:

  1. Handmade Leather Moroccan Pouf Footstool Ottoman
  2. Christopher Knight Home Alfie Boho Cotton Pouf
  3. Signature Design by Ashley Decorative Pouf
  4. Vibrant Woven Jute 26-inch Floor Pillow
  5. Balam Floor Pillow

As I mentioned, a standard element of “classic” Boho decor is vibrant color. Deep purples, blues, and mustard tones come to mind, often with asian roots. If you are looking for boho accents, think “world travel souvenirs” accumulated over generations. If you haven’t had the opportunity to tour the world and gather boho accents for your living room, here are some easy ideas to get you started:

  1. Stoneware Watering Can Vase Set – Pack of 2
  2. Greenland Home Fashions Jewel Pillows (Set of 2)
  3. 4 Piece Eliza Bottle Décor Set
  4. Ceramic LED Table Lamp Blue
  5. Wood Tray with 9 Glass Votive Holder
  6. Tiara End Table
  7. Ruggable Patchwork Boho Rug

And on the more neutral side, here are some great options:

  1. Antique Brass Arch Floor Lamp with Rattan Shade
  2. Distressed Wood Jute Rope Floating Shelves
  3. Stoneware Planter with Wood Stand
  4. Moon Phase Decor Wall Wall Hanging
  5. Boho Stripe 18″ Square Natural Pillow **ON CLEARANCE**
  6. 2 Piece Boho Wood Feathers Wall Décor Set

I hope you found some inspiration in these ideas! What are your favorite decor styles, and where do you find inspiration? I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas – Happy decorating!
